Uzbek Club at UIUC

The Uzbek club was formed to promote an understanding and appreciation of the culture of Uzbekistan. Prior to late 1991, Uzbekistan was one of the former Soviet Republics, now an independent country in central Asia.

If you want to learn more about Uzbekistan and its culture, join our club and participate in our events!

• 6 Mar 2005 - We participated in the Annual International Dinner at YMCA.

• 6 Mar 2005 - We shared our love for plov once again at the 22^nd International Dinner at the UofI YMCA. Our pot 'o plov was one of the favorites -- we had no leftovers!
• 16 Sep 2004 - We hosted a coffee hour at the Cosmopolitan Club. See pictures from that event.
• 3 May 2004 - Guest speakers and musicians Vera Rubin and Sergey Khanukaev presented a lecture on the Music and Culture of Uzbekistan (and former Soviet Union) and played a piece by Fritz Kreisler as well as one by Yuri Povolotsky, who was born in Uzbekistan.
• 24 Apr 2004 - potluck dinner featuring the Uzbek traditional plov was enjoyed by quite an international audience.
• 4 Apr 2004 - We were present at the 21^st International Dinner/Entertainment Night, hosted by the University YMCA @ UIUC. We now have pictures from that event!

  Tickets $10.00, space is limited and a sell out is expected so don't wait!

  Dinner will be a large buffet of food from over 30 different countries. There will also be international performers who will entertain the audience with dancing, singing, and other forms of art performance. The International Dinner is co-sponsored by: The University YMCA, the Office of International Student Affairs, and the Cosmopolitan Club.

• 11 Mar 2004 - After a busy fall semester with classes and work, we're back! We went bowling and designated new officers:

• 27 Jan 2004 - Uzbek Club participated in Activity Day and gathered more members.
• 26 Sep 2003 - We joined other international clubs at the Night Market, an evening of multicultural song, dance, entertainment and food, organized by TEAM, "Together Encouraging Appreciation of Multiculturalism". 7pm - midnight at the Union, quad-side. Cost: free! [ pictures ]
